Spring is in the air! Gone is the snow and cold wind (finally). I love the arrival of Spring because it brings in new beautiful flowers which can be used to create gorgeous bouquets for weddings, bridal showers, and around the house. A huge wedding trend is to have floral wall installations as wedding backdrops, but today were are sticking to the bride's bouquet. Picking seasonal flowers for your wedding bouquets, center pieces, and decor can help bring down the overall cost and it is more environmentally friendly because seasonal flowers do not have to be shipped in. Now let's get into what flowers are in season during the months of April and May so you can create a beautiful wedding bouquet.
These bright, colourful flowers are available in multiple colour options from bright red to cheery yellow to crisp white. Tulips look great on their own and can be used to create an ombre coloured bouquet. Or you can mix them in with other complementary buds like hyacinth, garden roses, anemones, and hydrangeas.
Peonies are a timeless choice for brides because of their beautiful, soft petals. This flower instantly adds a touch of romance but it can be quite expensive when it is not in season. Spring brides should take advantage of the season and add peonies of any color to their bouquets. Peonies pair beautifully with garden roses, ranunculus, and anemones. Or for a modern look try them with succulents to create lots of contrast with both texture and color.
If you are more of a minimalist bride, then maybe freesias are the right flower for you. They have small, delicate buds and come in a few colors such as white and soft pink. Freesias can stand alone in a simple bouquet or you can create a more extravagant look by creating a cascading bouquet which also includes roses, paper whites, and lots of greens.
If you are looking to create a whimsical feeling or going for country chic at your wedding try looking at gerbera daisies. These beautiful flowers come in bright colors (think red, bright pink, yellow) and in simple white. Personally, I prefer them in white with pops of color using other flowers to add dimension and texture to the bouquet. Since gerberas are such an understated and simple flower, they can be paired with anything from lilac and lisianthus to small roses or barely there buds.
Create lots of drama with beautiful calla lilies. These are definitely a statement flower; especially when paired with the equally gorgeous iris. I truly love this combination for a bride who isn't afraid of color and wants to dazzle her guests. To soften up the look you can pair tulips, gerbera daisies, garden roses, lilac, or paper whites with calla lilies.
